Welcome to Monterey! Origin’s Next Free System Update.

Our 13th Free System Update brings improvements to Encoded Depths as well as an important connection to Origin’s newest accessory, BenchPilot!

Encoded Depths, Now Improved

Import from Workspaces

The Encoded Depth feature was released as part of our 10th Free System Update. Now, with our 13th System Update, we’re making it even more powerful.. With Monterey, Encoded Depths are revealed directly in a Workspace whenever you hover over a shape. This allows for easy reference, and more importantly, easy transfer to your Cut Depth: with the new Transfer button, you can quickly set your Cut Depth to match the Encoded Depth with one simple click.

For Workspaces with multiple encoded depths, this new visualization makes it easier to scan your project and quickly check if your Cut Depth is at or under the Encoded Depth, and, more importantly, if you’re about to cut beyond the encoded depth.

With Autopass enabled, there is less to worry about, as Origin will automatically adjust the cut depth to the encoded depth for each shape.

BenchPilot Enabled

The Monterey Free System Update enables Origin to wirelessly communicate with BenchPilot, the latest addition to the Origin System.

BenchPilot works like autopilot for Origin: clip Origin into BenchPilot to turn it into a hands-free milling machine, capable of vertical or horizontal cutting. Dimensioned and sized to fit perfectly with Shaper Workstation, BenchPilot creates a gantry-like system – flexible for cutting joinery, inlays, intricate engravings, or profiles. Best of all, if you know how to operate Origin, you’ll know how to operate BenchPilot.

Simply clip Origin into BenchPilot to enable Pilot Mode, and unclip to operate Origin manually. Note that the Monterey Free System Update, or later software releases, is required for Origin to communicate with BenchPilot.

With Monterey, you’ll notice four new features in the Origin experience when connected to BenchPilot.

Preview Mode

As BenchPilot will cut all available paths selected, Preview Mode gives you an opportunity to review your project one last time, before cutting.

Edit Selection

To remove or edit the selected paths in Preview Mode, you can also select just the paths you would like BenchPilot to cut. This is especially useful if you’d like to cut part of your project with a specific router bit.

Automatic Pocketing

When connected to BenchPilot, Origin will automatically handle the path planning for routing pockets, including the inside finishing pass of the shape.

Full Screen Mode

When viewing BenchPilot from across the shop, Full Screen Mode allows you to easily see the time remaining of the current operation – relax, you have two more minutes until it’s ready for another piece of stock!

Support for Gen1 and Gen2

We’re excited to release this 13th Free System Update, not only for Origin Gen2 owners, but for Gen1 owners as well, making BenchPilot backwards-compatible with machines from almost 8years ago!

Take advantage of this Free System Update today by connecting your Origin to WiFi and following the on-screen instructions.
