The Challenge

Tight fitting joinery is something all of us can appreciate.

This Joinery Challenge is less about showcasing an entire finished project or piece of furniture, and more about highlighting the detail, execution, artistry, and overall fit of a specific connection within your project. Your entry should highlight:

  • How the joint was achieved

  • Why this method of joinery was used

  • The quality of the overall connection

We encourage you to include a short video of the fit, if you can too!

Prizes

In addition to fame and glory, we have three awesome prizes, beginning with first place receiving $1000 credit to the Shaper store.

  • Second place $500 credit to the Shaper store

  • Third place $200 credit to the Shaper store

How it works

  • Post your project on ShaperHub to enter

  • Add #joinery-challenge in the Project Description

  • Add a minimum of three photos and or videos

  • Projects are voted on a rolling basis throughout the contest period using the ShaperHub starring system.

Frequently Asked Questions

While other contests that we've run in the past have been open to the public, this one is for the Shaper Origin community. While you don't need to own an Origin, you do need to at least have access to one such as a shared space, and have a Shaper Account (free to set up) in order to play.

Document your joinery with photos / video and then create a new project on ShaperHub. In order to qualify, you must include #joinery-challenge in the project’s description. Learn more about how to post a new project on ShaperHub, here.

If you don’t yet have a Shaper account you will need to create one in order to post your project on ShaperHub. It’s easy, free, and takes only a couple of minutes.

Projects will be voted on using ShaperHub’s “favorite” system. In order to vote for a particular project simply click the icon in the project’s description. This will also add the project to your favorites list -- helpful if you want to recreate one of these projects yourself.

Shaper will announce the winners the week after the Challenge ends.

Yep, no shame with self promotion.

If you’re feeling inspired, go for it! Please avoid posting the same project twice, however.

Nope. Just store credit.

In the event of a tie a member of the Shaper staff will cast the tie breaking vote.

Post your joinery project to ShaperHub with #joinery-challenge in the project’s description.

Make sure you post the project between February 9 – March 6. Projects posted after March 6 at 11:59PM PST will not be considered in the vote tally.

Old projects on ShaperHub can be used, but you must make a new listing for them during the contest period.

Shaper reserves the right to disqualify any project creator that we suspect of cheating or foul play. Be a good citizen of the woodworking community! All community guidelines and terms and conditions of ShaperHub apply to this contest.
